"Save the Bacon" sold organic meat and other organic produce from the village of Yardley Hastings in rural Northamptonshire. The proprietors are now enjoying retirement from the demands of a busy mail-order business and are considering offers for the valuable customer base, good will, trading name and domain names.

We believe that Great British farmers grow the finest foods in the world, and that our business delivered superlative flavours to our customers' dining tables that added zest to their lives, with value and efficiency.
We took pride in offering a personal service based on our website. We grew a reputation for supplying excellent quality fresh foods that have been prepared with care, packed and labelled efficiently from a reliable and trustworthy source and delivered reliably.
Doug says ...
After farming with chemicals in the 1960s I noticed that weeds were becoming tolerant to herbicides, insects to insecticide and fungus to fungicides. Bacteria were becoming resistant to the antibiotics fed regularly to pigs and poultry and immunity was being passed on to human beings through eating pork and chickens. Birds, wild animals and insects were being destroyed also and with the prairie farming that I was as guilty of as anyone else the countryside was being denuded of life.
As if these environmental dangers were not bad enough, the quality of food that was on offer to the general public was without good flavour or texture and not designed to be enjoyed. On the other hand it was clear that this form of food production fitted in ideally with the supermarket's profit figures.
At the time we were relatively self sufficient with pigs, some hens and a cow, we also grew our own fruit and vegetables. What better situation to pursue our work, hobby and pleasures of producing good wholesome food and eating it? It has been said that it is a sad heart that sees no chance to rejoice and we did. It seemed that this was also an essential element lacking in so many other people's lives.
Bland food offered in supermarkets was not the answer to man's pleasure then and it still is not today. Therefore we decided that we should offer an alternative for those who really enjoy good food to give them a choice and show them how great British food can be.
It was with this in mind that in the mid 70s we changed our ways, gave up using chemicals and started farming organically. It soon became our pleasure to grow food that was greeted enthusiastically by housewives and househusbands alike. This new way of farming did not depend on the expensive subsidies neither did it do great environmental damage. We therefore rested peacefully at night in the knowledge that this was the correct path to follow.
We have continually striven to keep to our principles and have embraced the new technology available and, with the advent of the internet, created a farmer's market on the web. It presented the finest produce from the land and shores of Great Britain for your enjoyment. We are proud of the foods we offered and of the enjoyment it brought to our customers.
